Phishing and Cyber Awareness

Navarro ISD's Digital Citizenship campaign helps students learn habits and skills they need to navigate a digital world by using technology safely and responsibly in school, at home and beyond. Students in all grade levels are taught lessons on digital literacy skills including healthy media habits, safe passwords, how to prevent cyberbullying, what’s safe to share online and more. We're providing parents tools to continue the conversation at home with tips about online safety, digital etiquette, and the impact of technology in our lives.

Phishing Awareness and Tools

Navarro ISD's technology team prioritizes the security of student and staff email accounts, diligently working to protect them from phishing attempts. Phishing is a deceptive practice where cybercriminals send fraudulent emails, often mimicking legitimate organizations, to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information like passwords, credit card details, or personal data. To combat this threat, the district leverages Infosec resources, providing comprehensive educational materials and training sessions to both staff and students. These resources explain the telltale signs of phishing emails, such as suspicious sender addresses, urgent or threatening language, and requests for personal information. By fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness, Navarro ISD empowers its community to recognize and avoid these malicious attacks.

Furthermore, Navarro ISD utilizes the Phishify+ tool within Gmail to enhance its phishing defense strategy. This feature provides a simple and effective way for students and staff to report suspicious emails with just a few clicks. By enabling users to quickly flag potential threats, the district can promptly investigate and address any security concerns. This proactive approach not only helps to mitigate the immediate risk posed by phishing emails but also strengthens the overall security posture of the district's communication systems. The combined use of Infosec education and Phishify+ empowers the Navarro ISD community to actively participate in protecting themselves and the district from online threats.

Common Sense Media

Navarro ISD leverages a partnership with Common Sense Media to equip students and parents with crucial digital literacy skills. These collaborations typically provide access to a wealth of online resources, including educational videos, interactive activities, and printable guides. These tools aim to empower children to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly, covering topics such as cyberbullying, online privacy, and media balance. Through these resources, students learn how to make informed decisions online, both within the school environment and in their personal lives, while parents gain the knowledge to support their children's digital well-being at home and beyond.
